RULES: EXCELLENT EDGES

ALLURE

You are physically attractive and get more than your fair share of admirers. Your good looks aid you in relevant social situations. While being attractive can be a potent benefit, it also means that you are easily recognizable and more likely to be remembered by onlookers. Alluring individuals often find it difficult to blend in. In short, the more you invest in the Edge, the more social drama you can expect!

Basic: Hot stuff. You’re often the best-looking person in the room. You can use your raw appeal to your advantage in social situations, and all 6’s you roll in Presence (Persuasion) tests earns you 3 Stars instead of 2. In order for this to work, the target must be attracted to you physically.

Advanced: Timeless beauty. As Basic, but you also gain Advantage on these rolls.

ARTISAN

If you want to create lasting works of admirable craftsmanship, then this is the Edge for you. Whether you want to be a great painter, poet, or cauldron stirring alchemist, the Artisan Edge provides an outlet for all that creative energy. Crafting is far too in depth a subject to get into here, and is explained in far greater detail in the Special Systems section (Crafting). In short, those with this Edge can make the best of their artistic soul, and can create lasting pieces of art to be admired, or produce items that can aid in adventuring.

Basic: Virtuoso. You could make a living at your art of choice.

Advanced: Master. You have what it takes to be one of the luminaries in your discipline. You are well-regarded in your artistic circle, with your name being associated with quality works.

BRAWLER

Who needs a pistol when you’ve got dynamite in one fist and iron in the other? Fighting unarmed normally has a Damage Value of 1. Those who invest in this Edge gain even more punching power and are never considered unarmed.

Basic: Bar Brawler. Your unarmed attacks gain a +1 Damage Value Bonus.

Advanced: Walking Weapon. Your unarmed attacks gain another +1 Damage Value Bonus (for a total of +2). Furthermore, whenever you earn 3+ Stars in combat with an unarmed attack, they must succeed at an immediate Vigor (Athletics) test or be knocked Prone.

CHARMED LIFE

You were born under a good sign, or maybe fortune favors the bold. Whatever the case, things have a habit of going your way...

Basic: Your maximum Luck Pool is 4 instead of 3.

Advanced: Your maximum Luck Pool is 5 instead of 4.

DODGE!

You are light on your feet and can tap dance between bullets! After an attack roll against someone with this Edge is made, you may choose to roll an Agility (Athletics) test to attempt to mitigate some (or all) of the damage. Each Star you roll on this test negates one Star from the attacker's roll. Your rating in this Edge determines how many times you may attempt to Dodge.

Basic: You may Dodge 3 times per Long Rest.

Advanced: You may Dodge 3 times per Short Rest.

DOUBLE TROUBLE

You make the most out of any combat situation unleashing a flurry of attacks on an unsuspecting target. When this Edge is taken, choose whether it can be used for Melee or Aim Skill attacks. You can take a Full Action to make 2 attacks during your turn. Note that using a Full Action to attack means that you cannot move at all that turn (since moving your speed requires a Half Action). You can use this flashy ability a number of times depending on your level in this Edge. You may use this ability 3 times per Long Rest.

In order to purchase any ranks in this Edge, you must have an Adept rating or higher in whatever Skill you chose to pair with this Edge (either Aim or Melee).

Basic: Your second attack gains Disadvantage.

Advanced: Your second attack no longer gains Disadvantage.

FAST HANDS

Your digits move like greased lightning, allowing you to perform feats that others would find impossible. You must have an Agility Stat of at least 3 to purchase this Edge.

Basic: Drawing, stowing, or reloading a weapon is a Half Action for you instead of a Full Action.

Advanced: Drawing, stowing, or reloading a weapon is a Free Action for you instead of a Half Action.

FIRST STRIKE

You are quite an opportunist and know how to take advantage of a slowpoke opponent, using the element of surprise to maximum, often lethal effect!

Basic: Whenever you go first in combat, you gain Advantage on your first 3 attack rolls that combat.

Advanced: As above, and any 6’s on attack rolls made during these 3 turns earn you 3 Stars instead of 2.

HEIRLOOM

You possess some strange item of power that aids you in your adventures. How you stumbled upon this mystical relic is up to you, but the story should be colorful and memorable. A list of example Heirlooms is presented in the Gear section. You can use a number of Heirlooms equal to your Presence score. Purchasing this Edge increases your capacity to use Heirlooms as well.

Basic: You begin play with one Heirloom of your choice. Increase your Heirloom Capacity by 1.

Advanced: You begin play with two Heirlooms of your choice. Increase your Heirloom Capacity by 2.

LIFESTYLE

You are monetarily wealthy and live in the lap of luxury. Instead of merely dumping extra funds in your lap, your rating in this Edge determines the quality of goods and services you enjoy. Those with this Edge also gain access to elite society and can mingle freely with other individuals of means. Rich people like each other’s company, and you can expect to hobnob with the elite in your area. This Edge also grants you a faithful majordomo who handles your appointments and common tasks. This esteemed assistant cannot aid you in battle, but otherwise follows you around and tends to you dutifully.

Basic: Well off. Once per month, you can indulge in an outrageous expense, such as throwing a grand party or making some other pretentious display of wealth. Furthermore, mundane expenses (lodging, food, etc.) are not considered out of pocket for you.

Advanced: Filthy rich. As per Basic, but you can indulge in an outrageous expense once per week.

MIND OVER MATTER

You gain inner reserves of strength from a towering intellect instead of an indomitable physique! In order to purchase this Edge, you must have a Smarts Stat of at least 3. This Edge’s Basic version must be taken at Character Creation, and cannot be purchased with Experience Points. You may improve the Basic version of this Edge with Experience Points, however.

Basic: When determining your starting Energy Pool at character creation AND when gaining Energy via Experience Point expenditure, replace your Vigor Score with your Smarts score.

Advanced: As Basic, and whenever you are called upon to roll a Vigor (Athletics) test to resist an ill effect, you may choose to roll a Smarts (Willpower) instead.

MYSTERIOUS BLOOD

You are one of the rare few who can harness the magical potential of your particular setting. Each Game Setting probably has a selection of mystical heritages (called Strangecrafts), and you are able to tap into those oddball powers and make them manifest! When this Edge is purchased, choose 3 Powers from your Strangecraft’s list. The various Strangecrafts are explained in greater detail in the Potent Powers section.

Basic: You can learn and perform only the Basic versions of Powers you know. There is a bright side to this, however, as you do not suffer from your Strangecraft’s drawback.

Advanced: You can learn and perform the Advanced versions of Powers you know. The downside to this is that you pick up the inherent drawback of your Strangecraft.

TOUGH AS NAILS

You can take a licking and keep on ticking, and damage ain’t nothin’ but a number to a toughie like yourself. This Edge grants you an Armor Rating due to your natural pain tolerance. If you ever gain an Armor Rating from another source, use the higher rating. Do not add them together. Note that Armor Rating has a maximum of 3. Each level of this Edge also raises your Maximum Energy limit, allowing you to endure even more hard knocks!

Basic: Your Armor Rating is 1. Your Maximum Energy limit is 175 instead of 150.

Advanced: Your Armor Rating is 2. Your Maximum Energy limit is 200 instead of 175.

THIRD WIND

Never count you out of a fight! You benefit more than most when you activate a Second Wind.

Basic: You can activate your Second Wind as a Half Action instead of a Full Action. Your Second Wind no longer costs a Luck Point to activate.

Advanced: As Basic, and whenever you activate a Second Wind, you gain 30 Energy instead of d6 x 5. Don’t even roll. Lastly, you can activate your Second Wind as a Free Action instead of a Half Action.
